Dr. Kensinger has over 25 years of experience in the therapeutic recreation field as a therapist and educator. She taught therapeutic recreation courses for Grand Valley State University (tenured associate professor), University of Wisconsin LaCrosse, University of Nebraska at Omaha, Florida International University, University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the University of Florida.
Kari is a renowned speaker who has made over 100 presentations at local, state, national and international conferences on topics related to sensory programming, expressive arts, adapted physical activity, leisure behavior, behavioral analysis in leisure contexts, professional development and advocacy. She has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters in therapeutic recreation textbooks, and a workbook entitled Behavior Analysis in Leisure Contexts.
Dr. Kensinger has worked with children as young as 2 and seniors as old as 106 in homes, schools, behavioral health centers, physical rehabilitation centers, and human service agencies. She has received additional training in working with individuals who have Autism and those with Dementia.
Agencies she has collaborated with and worked for include: Munroe-Meyer Institute at UNMC, ESU 3, Omaha Public Schools, Omaha Parks and Recreation, Immanuel Rehabilitation, Madonna Rehabilitation, Great Plains PVA, Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, Quality Living and the Veterans Administration.
